Article: How to Grow Wheatgrass at Home

The first time I have heard of the wonder wheatgrass, I immediately got hooked and did my research to find all the wheatgrass benefits, how to purchase them, and how to grow wheatgrass at home. Do you know that there are handfuls of benefits that wheatgrass can offer us? It boosts energy, strengthen immune system, and clears up our skin. With the vitamins and minerals that you can get, it is truly a wonder grass.

Although wheatgrass can now be purchased in powder forms, I still believe that nothing beats fresh-picked wheatgrass straight to your juicer. I just love picking up from my kitchen counter a handful of grass each morning and make my very own energy booster shot.

Growing wheatgrass at home is not so complicated to do but it is not as easy as 1-2-3 though. It takes a lot of patience and tender loving care. I have made simple steps on growing your very own wonder grass at your home.

  1. Wheat grains have to be soaked overnight with clean water, carefully not over-doing it more than 24 hours to prevent the solution from spoilage. Wheat grains can be purchased on seed shops, just make sure that you are getting a premium class.
  2. After soaking, drain completely the grains and carefully wrap the seeds into a cotton cloth to lock the grans' moisture and store it in a slightly covered container. The seeds will then have small sprouts overnight.
  3. Prepare the tray for planting the sprouted grains. A light-weight tray can be a wheatgrass pot which can be purchased on hardware or plastic stores.
  4. Fill the tray with about an inch-high of dampen soil. You may dampen the soil by spraying on the top, but just be careful not to overdo it.
  5. Sprinkle evenly with sprouted grains the top layer of the soil. The layer of grains should be very well distributed until you are not much seeing the soil under the grains.
  6. Fill with another layer of soil on top of the grains, carefully making it a thin layer only. Spray again with water to dampen the soil.
  7. Cover the tray with cotton cloth and dampen the soil by watering everyday for three days straight. It would be better if you can water the soil twice a day. Just remember to cover the tray with cloth every after watering for three days.
  8. On the third day, there should be small green leaves that are starting to grow and this is your clue that you are now able to make the wheatgrass sprout and can cease on putting on the cover cloth.
  9. Continue to water everyday for ten days more until the leaves grows up to around six inches, which means that your wheatgrass is ready to be harvested.
  10. Harvest a portion of the wheatgrass, just enough for your needed shot of juice. Cut about half an inch above the soil every time you harvest.

Nothing is easy to do when it comes to planting, and growing wheatgrass is not an exception. But having your very own tray of wheatgrass at home can be done when you combine perseverance and patience together with your goal to have a healthy grass for your family's health.
